The Qur'an clearly shows that envy is a real and harmful affliction. It describes how people may wish for others to lose the blessings Allah has given them and teaches us to seek refuge in Allah from the evil of the envier. The following verses provide clear evidence of envy in the Qur'an and its connection to harm.
Allah (SWT) says:
Many of the people of the Scripture (Jews and Christians) wish that if they could turn you away as disbelievers after you have believed, out of envy from their own selves, even after the truth (that Muhammad is Allah's Messenger) has become manifest unto them.
Or do they envy men (Muhammad and his followers) for what Allah has given them of His Bounty? Then, We had already given the family of Ibrahim (AS) (Abraham) the Book and Al-Hikmah (As-Sunnah (Divine Revelation to those Prophets not written in the form of a book), and conferred upon them a great kingdom.
